About
Rachel (she/they) is a mixed media artist. Their work is an intense reflection on materiality that lies somewhere in between painting, textile and sculpture.
Their creative practice is a playful experiment laden with questions. How to get that color? How to build a painting without a canvas? How to push a certain material to its limit?
It is at the apex of daydreaming and problem solving that themes begin to emerge: the distorted grid as a representation of space that is infused with emotional meaning. Intensely saturated colors, built in layers that visibly reflect the passing of time. Deliberate imperfection as a metaphor for embodiment. The result is an encouragement towards inward reflection, with pieces that provide a metaphorical bridge between the internal and external.
Rachel was born and raised in London, UK, and moved to the Bay Area in 2011.
